What your invoice should include
- Your business name, contact details and, if VAT-registered, your VAT number
- Your customer’s name and the job address
- A quote or invoice number and the date
- Each item of labour and materials, with quantity and price
- The total due, the payment due date and how to pay
Tips for electrician invoices
- List the CoC as its own line. Buyers, sellers and estate agents often ask for it separately.
- Note the property address on the invoice. It matters for CoCs and insurance claims.
- Quote fault-finding as a fixed fee, then quote the repair. It avoids disputes when the fault is bigger than expected.
Questions
How should an electrician invoice for a certificate of compliance?
Put the CoC on its own line with the property address, so it can be matched to the certificate.
Should I quote before fault finding?
Quote the call-out and diagnosis as a fixed fee first, then send a second quote for the repair once you know the fault.
